Heritage Open Day - Northampton Jesus Centre & The Deco
Sat 13 Sep 2008 - Sun 14 Sep 2008
Guided tours of Grade II listed former Art Deco cinema built in “streamline moderne” style.
Prior to renovation the Northampton cinema had stood empty since May 1995 and was in desperate need of extensive work. It has been "listed" by the government as an example of the 1930s "Art Deco" style. All changes were approved by English Heritage to ensure that the historic features were preserved. Part of the work included restoring the large entrance lobby's double staircase and balcony, which had been lost in a 1960s modernisation.
